Can I take the class if I don’t own a handgun?

Yes. We have a few semi-automatic and revolver handguns available for use. Please call first to see which caliber is available so you will know which ammunition to bring.

Can I share a handgun with someone else?

Yes. We often have couples with one handgun; you simply shoot at different times. This isn’t a problem because class size usually dictates that we shoot in two relays.

Can I take the class if I don’t know how to shoot?

The LTC class is not designed to teach you how to shoot. It assumes you have the basic working knowledge and skills to operate a handgun safely. If you have no experience at all with a handgun, it is recommended that you first attend our " Learn To Shoot "class to receive instruction on how to load, fire and handle a handgun properly.

What if I don’t pass the class?

We work with you to insure you know all the material and can pass the 25-question exam. The only exception to this policy is if you create a safety hazard on the range, you will be disqualified. If you simply pay attention and follow simple instructions, you will have no problem.

What should I bring to class/range?

A handgun 32 caliber or larger

50 rounds of ammunition to be used in the firearm you intend to qualify with

Eye protection

Hearing protection

Ball cap or billed visor

Close toed shoes or boots

Crew neck tee shirt or button up shirt or blouse

** Dress appropriately for expected weather

May I reschedule a class?

Yes. We understand unavoidable circumstances happen. If you need to reschedule, just call or email us, and we will be happy to accommodate your needs in another class, at no additional cost to you.

Do I have to be a Texas resident to Apply?


Do I have to be a US Citizen to apply?

Residents of Texas that are NOT US Citizens, but do have a GREEN CARD can take this class and get a Permit.

How long do I have to live in Texas to qualify as a resident?

Just one day. This changed recently. In the past you were required to have been in the state for 6 months but now you can apply for your permit after a single day of residency.

What would make me ineligible to apply for or receive the permit?

What is the Application Fee for the Texas permit?

The standard application fee for the Texas Concealed Handgun Permit is $140. There are some ways to qualify for discounts. You can click here to view the full fee schedule along with qualifying discounts. For applications submitted electronically, the fees may be paid using a credit or debit card. For applications mailed to DPS, acceptable forms of payment are money order, cashier’s check or personal check.

What is the Renewal Fee?

Can I Carry Open and Concealed?

Yes, the Texas CHL allows that you can carry either concealed or open but there are some restrictions which we address in the class.

Will I be notified when my permit is going to expire?

The DS does try to notify CHL holders by e-mail that their license will be expiring in six months.

How long does it take to get the permit after my application has been submitted?

The state will endeavor to process your application within 60 days. Delays are common if your application is incomplete or there are questions about your arrest record or other things that can disqualify you. You will be notified in writing if this is the case.

What is Your Refund Policy? What If I Can’t Attend the Class I Signed Up For?

We will refund studens when unable to attend a class they have prepaid for. We ask for prepayment only to have a reliable count of how many students are coming. This has become necessary because we fill most of our classes to capacity. Must be notified by Email 24 hours before the date of the class to be eligible for a refund, No phone or text will be accepted, Refunds will be issued in the same manner that the fees are paid: Cash, check, or card. How long is the class?

Four to six hours for the classroom part of the class. This can be done in one session but just as often we break it into two weeknight sections. The firearm shooting proficiency exam is separate.

Do Ihave to shoot a firearm for this class?

Range Time firing of a weapon is required for this permit. More details are available in the class description (click on one of the classes on our calendar).

Do I have to have / bring my own gun?

No, if you don’t have a handgun to use during the class you can borrow one from the instructor.

What forms of payment will do you accept for the course?

Cash, check, or credit card (Visa, or MasterCard). We prefer if you prepay online but should you feel uncomfortable you can call us to make other arrangements.
